Stuff To Know About Cancun, Mexico
Bringing Your Pet(s) To Cancun
Legally all you need to bring your pet into Mexico is the following paperwork:
A vaccination certificate stating that your pet has been vaccinated against
rabies, hepatitis, pip and leptospirosis;
An official health certificate that must be issued by a veterinarian no more
than 72 hours before entering Mexico.
You may enter the country with up to two large pets (dogs or cats). If you want
to enter the country with any more than two pets you would need permission, which
could be obtained from the Mexican consulate nearest you. In any case, it would
be a good idea to go to a Mexican consulate ahead of your trip and inform them
of your plans. You will be relieved to know that there is no quarantine period
required for bringing a pet into Mexico.
However, it's very important to note that airlines have
certain restrictions on pet size and weight, as well as on pet containers, so
be sure to check beforehand. Furthermore,
it would be a good idea to make travel plans well in advance.
When leaving Mexico, we suggest that you check with the relevant embassy or consulate
involved before leaving the country. They will give you the exact paperwork requirements
to leave the county with a pet. Similar principles apply on exiting as
on entering. You'll need a certificate of vaccination against rabies, and also
a certificate of health signed and sealed by a veterinarian five to ten days before your departure
from Mexico. Before departing from the country you may need to obtain an export
license to leave the country after a brief visual inspection of your dog or cat.
There will be no cost for this license for up to two dogs or cats.
